Office Furniture: Start Simple and let it Develop as your Business Grows

Of all the different types of office furniture available, my favorite piece for a home office is a basic table. There is plenty of room for my computer and printer and other needed peripherals, a container for small items such as pens, I use book ends to control regularly accessed books, and then neatly place in accessible areas anything else that I often use. My "desk" does occasionally get unruly, but since it is all visible, I am forced to tidy it up, unlike a desk with drawers where you can keep your unruliness hidden away from visiting eyes.As you start a new business, other than a table, there are only a couple of other pieces of office furniture that is necessary for a home office or small office space rented in town. The first is a shelf. The shelf is needed to keep other office supplies and reference materials, and like the table/desk, everything is visible and ergo, kept neat. The other necessary piece, and probably more important to have before a shelf, is a filing cabinet. With all the different b...

The Progression of Home Office Furniture

The great thing about home office furniture is that it can be as simple or as sophisticated as we choose to make it. It progresses as we do. It wasn't that many years ago when I was using cinder blocks and an old door as a desk, a second hand end table for a printer stand, and some plastic milk cartons for my book shelves. Those things worked, but didn't win any awards for interior decorating. They were functional, but that was about it. Over the years I am happy to say that I have upgraded, not all at once, to nicer furniture. Like anyone else, I've had to go through stages, and it's fun to look back over the years. After my cheap-as-can-be home office furniture stage, I went through an I-think- particle-board-is-pretty-nice stage. And it was compared to what I I had been using. It was relatively inexpensive too. I had a corner desk with a built in hutch made out of particle board that was covered in laminate that looked like hardwood. That's what I thought when I bought it anyway. I saw what I wanted to see...

The Variety of Styles Available of a Laptop Desk or Laptop Table

In the last 10 to 15 years, a new piece of furniture has been developed to fill a new need in the market place, and that is a laptop desk or a laptop table. In some ways this piece of furniture reminds me of a lap board or breakfast tray. But the variety of styles of a laptop desk is way more deluxe, and sometimes quite different than either of these other items.First, there is the basic "tray" style laptop table, great for using while sitting in a chair or propped up in bed (or lying down if it has a tilting, adjustable top). Much more comfortable than balancing your computer on your lap. There are a lot of different designs just within this subcategory of laptop tables. I have seen some where a portion of the table is adjustable, tilting up at various angles to make using your laptop more convenient. This is great for relieving neck and back strain, making you, as the user, more comfortable. Usually next to the adjustable part of the table is a flat area for using your mouse. Some even have a built in mouse...
